Mummy.. I want to be a teacher when I grow up.. just like you and also nenek..

Ok..

Mummy.. jadi teacher elok tak?

Elok.. it’s a very good job and it’s also fun!

Ok.. but Kakak Inas nak jadi illustrator jugak. Boleh ke mummy?

Boleh.. kakak boleh jadi teacher and when you have other free time you can be an illustrator…

Ok… day time kakak Inas boleh la jadi teacher .. then night time kakak boleh buat illustrator job at home. Boleh tak mummy?

Boleh no problem if you have enough time

Mummy.. kakak nak jadi teacher… it’s very important kan mummy?

Hmmm.. very important? Why?

Because I want to teach my own kids just like mummy can teach Kakak and Abang..

Kakak, you can teach your kids even if you’re not a teacher.. all parents have to teach their kids

Ohh ok.. but I like to teach and draw.. that’s why kakak nak jadi a teacher and an illustrator.

It’s good if you can write and draw for Islamic books for children because there are not many books like that..

Kakak tau mummy.. I have some stories yang very good kakak dah tau nak tulis.. then, I will use good Islamic names for the characters…. like Muhammad, Aisyah, Fatimah..

Umar yang dari tadi menahan sabar tunggu turn nak bercakap… terus mencelah cepat2 sebelum kakak sambung lagi soalan2 dia yang tak pernah habis

Mummy, abang nak jadi apa bila abang grow up?

Err.. apa yang abang suka nak buat? Abang suka kerja apa?

Abang nak jadi doktor la mummy… abang nak check semua semua orang.. Boleh ke mummy?

Boleh.. abang suka ke nak check orang? Abang suka nak check babies ke kids ke grown up ke?

Abang nak check semua orang…. kids, babies, grown ups.. nanti abang nak check mummy, bapak nanti mummy dgn bapak dah tua..

Oh ok.. very good la abang

Kakak:  Abang, day time abang nak jadi doctor.. what other things you want to do? Macam kakak Inas nak jadi teacher and illustrator.. Abang???

Mummy:  Abang boleh jadi ustaz..

Kakak:  Haaa bolehlah abang!! Abang jadi ustaz macam UncleMamu…

Abang:  Tapi abang nak jadi ustaz kat masjid aje…  (hahahhah ……CikJa: adakah ini kerana Ustaz UncleMamu selalu kedengaran di dalam radio dan kelihatan di dalam peti hitam?? )

Mummy: Ok boleh.. abang jadi Imam dekat masjid nak?

Abang:      Ha… nak.. abg nak jadi Imam dekat masjid mummy… abang nak jadi Imam macam Umar Al-Khattab…

Mummy: Ok.. baguslah Abang

Kakak Inas got an idea to be an illustrator when she started reading Sally Gardner’s book – Book of Princesses which we bought for her in 2007. At that time, I suspected Inas to be having some signs of being dyslexic. Dr. Umi Kalthum suggested me Sally Gardner. Then, I bought the first Book of Princesses and automatically Inas was really tied up with the book.The book came with an audio CD which Inas would listen to many many times every night and day until she could verbally memorise all the stories.

She also loves the detailed illustrations in the book which is done by the writer Sally Gardner herself… and that’s how Inas started wanting to be an illustrator and also a book writer.

Watch below.. Inas was telling one of the stories from A Book of Princesses. This was taken in September 2008 when we were still back in Bintulu. At that time, Inas was almost 6 years old and could only read simple words but not the whole book. So, we bought her the audio-CD together with the book above. She listened attentively because I must say that all the stories are very delectable unlike the typical fairy tales that I am used to.

Every day and night after coming back from her kindy, Inas would listen to the stories repeatedly until there was a point that she could memorise all of them.
